WHY DID THE TITANIC SINK?
The Titanic set off on its first voyage in 1912. When it hit an iceberg, the ship everyone believed was unsinkable met a watery end. Sadly, not all of the passengers made it off the ship in time. Who was to blame?
Captain E. J. Smith ignored seven iceberg warnings from his crew.
The ship builder used about three million rivets to hold the Titanic together. The rivets that were recovered from the wreck were studied and found to be poorly made.
Stanley Lord was captain of a nearby ship. He was told by his crew that rockets were being fired into the air by a large ship. But Lord decided that the Titanic was probably just having a party and ignored the report.
