WHAT OUR BODY DOES WITH FOOD

Your body's cells need the foods you eat to provide energy for your body, make new cells, and repair cells that wear out. The food you eat has important nutrients in it that your body needs. Carbohydrates give your body the energy it needs for muscles and nerves to work and for making and repairing tissues. Your body gets energy from fats too. Fats are needed for energy and growth. Proteins help repair damaged body cells, make new tissue and keep you from getting sick.

Vitamins work to keep skin healthy and bones strong. They also help your nerves work correctly and help your body make more red blood cells. Minerals are important for growth and for keeping teeth and bones healthy. They are needed to help your blood clot and keep your digestive system running.
